The Institute is happening February 8, 2024 at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina, in San Diego, CA.  please see the Program page for details about schedule. For attendees joining from outside the United States, be sure to check your passport expiration date in advance.

The President's Institute theme for 2024 is focused on sustainable development within libraries, using the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a tool for fostering individual and collective awareness and imagination. This Institute is intentionally designed to build participants’ awareness of the SDGs and capacity to use them to effectuate change through in-person engaged discussion and exchange.

Yes, the Institute registration fee includes breakfast, lunch, an afternoon energizer and beverages all day.

The format of the President's Institute is an immersive workshop designed for in-person participation.

We anticipate 150 attendees.

Dress comfortably in layers as meeting room temperatures can vary.

ARL will work with the hotel to ensure menu options that accommodate requested dietary requirements. 

ARL strives to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage and participate fully:

  • All Institute materials will be distributed in an accessible format electronically through the event app.
  • Regular wellness and networking breaks are built in throughout the program.
  • The hotel venue is ADA-compliant and accessible rooms are available upon request. Please visit the hotel website for more information about the venue.
  • All-gender restrooms are available at the event venue. 
  • Facilities will be made available at the event venue for those who request a space for nursing parents.
  • All speakers and audience members asking questions will be asked to use the microphone to promote accessibility.
  • Accommodations for dietary needs are available. Please indicate your dietary needs on your conference registration.

The President’s Institute is able to offer a limited number of registration scholarships generously sponsored by ITHAKA. Scholarships can cover full or partial registration costs.

To express interest please complete the interest form by Wednesday, January 10. Awardees are determined by the President’s Institute Task Force based on the funds available and will be confirmed by January 12.

Attendees are responsible to research, understand, and comply with any entry restrictions and/or health and quarantine requirements based upon their country of departure. It is the traveler’s responsibility to be aware of any entry or policy changes prior to traveling to the US.

CDC’s Amended Order Implementing Presidential Proclamation on Safe Resumption of Global Travel During the COVID-19 Pandemic ceased to be in effect as of 12:01 a.m. EDT on May 12, 2023.  An announcement of the termination of this Amended Order has been published in the Federal Register.

This means that as of 12:01 a.m. EDT on May 12, 2023, noncitizen nonimmigrant air passengers no longer need to show proof of being fully vaccinated with an accepted COVID-19 vaccine to board a flight to the United States.

ARL does not issue documents or letters in connection with visa or immigration matters. Attendees should check the specific visa and entry requirements based on their specific circumstances.

If registrants require travel to attend, all reservations and expenses to attend are the responsibility of the traveler. ARL employees, contractors, and partners are not authorized to facilitate or pay for any travel expenses for event registrants.

Yes, you can request a substitution by sending an email to events@arl.org with the names of both the original and substitute registrant. All requests for substitutions must be received no later than 5 p.m. PST on January 31, 2024.

Cancellations must be made in writing to events@arl.org. A full refund minus a $50 administrative fee is available through December 15, 2023.  December 15—January 19, 2024 a full refund minus a $100 administrative fee. After January 19, 2024, no refunds will be issued. Substitutions are welcome through January 31, 2024. 

If you need to make a change to your registration, a link is provided in your registration email, changes are accepted until January 19, 2024. If you need additional assistance or cannot locate your confirmation, please email events@arl.org.

The ARL room rate will be offered based on hotel availability until Wednesday, January 17.

Yes. You must enter a credit card during the reservation process to make any hotel reservations within the ARL housing block.
 

Yes. However, if the credit card used as a guarantee for the hotel reservation is not in your name, the cardholder must be present at check-in, or you must set up an advance credit card authorization with the hotel prior to arrival.
 

Although the hotel will do their best to accommodate all special requests, the fulfillment of these requests is based on availability at check-in and is not guaranteed.

  • Guest rooms must have one registered guest at least 21 years of age.
  • Nightly room rates do not include taxes.
  • Occupancy rates per guest room over single or double occupancy may apply.
  • All reservations and expenses are the responsibility of the traveler. 
  • The $15 resort fee is optional, which includes: Premium Wi-Fi, 2 bottled waters daily, complimentary kayak rental with Mission Bay Sports Center & local and long distance phone calls. If you would like your $15 resort fee waived, please advise the front desk at check-in and it will be removed from your room.
