Learning Outcomes
Session attendees will be able to: - Identify effective practices in education and training for library assessment practice in a variety of settings. - Describe the challenges of identifying key competencies and training library practitioners on a full range of evaluation methods and strategies. - Recognize the need for a multi-faceted approach to meet the education and training needs in the library field.
Key Topics
Content: What do library assessment professionals need to know? How is this changing and evolving over time? What are related areas of practice, e.g., UX, and how to make the linkages without overwhelming learners? Method: What can be taught in an iSchool course? What is best learned on-the-job and through continuing education? What is the role of informal community of practice groups, e.g., local and regional meet-ups? Assessment: How can we evaluate the outcomes of education and training experiences? How do we ensure that teachers in this area are also progressing their own knowledge and skills?
Plan for attendee engagement
Before the dialogue among panelists begins, attendees will be asked to reflect on their experiences with learning to do assessment and respond to a series of prompts to share their experiences. Then, after the initial panelist discussion, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and Kara will moderate with the panel. To close the session, attendees will be asked to reflect on how they will apply what was discussed in the session.
