How can collaborative efforts expand collections’ impact and access? Digital Commonwealth, a statewide
initiative led by Boston Public Library, has offered free digital services to hundreds of diverse repositories
since 2011 to increase collection visibility and build cross-institutional usability. Learn from BPL and its
partners about how breaking down barriers between institutions can create new possibilities for discovery,
engagement, research, and learning. This session will also explore the challenges and opportunities of open
access, AI, and building sustainable digital infrastructure.

Marylanders Online project in the INFO College at the University of Maryland will share experiences and

outcomes in working to build programs of public engagement through strategic coalition building. They will

Scenario Planning for AI/ML Driven Futures of Research Libraries
Dianne Babski ■■ Christy Long ■■ Devin Savage ■■ Catherine Steeves

The ARL/CNI Task Force on Scenario Planning for AI and Machine Learning Futures has just
released their preliminary report in April CNI (check status then). The report outlines several scenarios
on possible futures for the research enterprise when shaped by evolving developments in AI and machine
learning. Through this panel session several members of the task force will share some of the group's findings,
as well as their personal working experience on the task force to increase our understanding of possible
strategic outcomes, implementation application, developments and policy choices. They will provide reflection
of possible AI-influenced scenarios for the research enterprise and spark discussion amongst members of how
those scenarios might play out in their contexts. The panel discussion will be followed by members' table
discussions to engage with and reflect on the scenarios, resulting in an in-the-moment poll to assess the
membership's response to this preliminary report. The goal of this session is to improve our discursive agency
as a community in thinking about and pursuing a future with both uncertainty and promise that embraces
and influences advances in generative AI and machine learning.

This session includes a panel discussion, table discussion and audience polling

this technology brings. Our speaker will lead us in an interactive conversation about the
transformative power of generative AI. Attendees will gain insights into how the University of Michigan
has integrated GenAI tools within its community, with a steadfast focus on equity, accessibility, and privacy.
We will highlight and take a critical look at issues of bias, ethics, and hallucinations as they relate to informed
