Speaker Bio
Jennifer Pesek is the Student Success Librarian at Bowman Library, Menlo College in Atherton, California. Her work centers on student instruction, employment and engagement. She is currently focusing on high-impact engagement with Menlo’s Student Library Specialists. This focus is an extension on previous research with Rick Stoddart into the ways that student employment in the library can contribute to student success and career readiness. She completed several projects and internships which focus on analytical research (such as the ClimateQual survey with Quality Metrics, LLC) and IL instruction (design on several specialized IL modules, one for the business department at CSUEB and another for the Convent and Stuart Hall High School library archives). Her previous field work included the opportunity to create a customized subject taxonomy and controlled vocabulary for a history archives database. She also served as the Vollstedt Intern for Library Administration at the University of Oregon. Before becoming a librarian, Jennifer worked as a public interest and private solo civil rights attorney, working in the fields of immigration, disability rights, non-profit issues and small business entrepreneurship. In that career she focused on community empowerment through education and communication, providing frequent public workshops on legal topics as well as providing business law help to small businesses.
