Name
Sustainable Practices for the Retention of BIPOC Librarians
Description

Retention and attrition of librarians who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) have been long-term issues in library and information science (LIS). While there has been discussion in the US and Canada, and much anecdotal evidence has been collected and shared, very few empirical studies have been undertaken to try to both understand the pervasiveness of the issues and identify solutions. This session will present the results of a large-scale mixed methods study that utilized both survival analysis and qualitative interviews to empirically identify when BIPOC librarians left the field, when they decided to stay, and what practices support retention versus those that led to attrition.
