Description

THIS SESSION REQUIRED RESERVATION DURING REGISTRATION.

Since 2013, Jane Finch community members and York University librarians, faculty, and staff members have built the Jane Finch Community Research Partnership as a way to address extractive and problematic research relationships between York University and its neighboring community in northwest Toronto. This session will discuss the collaborative work by community members and librarians to build an open-access collection of published research about Jane Finch so that despite paywalls, local residents can have convenient access, independent of the university, to information about the community which many of them have contributed to as research participants and interviewees. The session will touch on a range of challenges we’ve faced and how we have tried to address them; funding; publicity; partner organizations; and relationships with other aspects and initiatives of the Jane Finch Community Research Partnership.
