María Tudela (she/her/ella) is an Assistant Professor and a Humanities and Social Sciences Librarian at Milner, liaising with Family and Consumer Sciences, Latin American & Latino/a Studies, the School of Communication, and Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. She obtained her Master of Library and Information Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where her areas of concentration were Reference & Instruction, Collections, and Management. Her research centers critical librarianship and she draws theoretical inspiration from Gloria Anzaldua, Chela Sandoval, Chandra Mohanty, Paulo Freire, and bell hooks. Through the work of these scholars, she is beginning to understand the radical change that results from centering love, hope, and critical thought. María trusts the powers of resistance, agency, and liberation and the potential that libraries have in transforming our collective communities. As an academic librarian, she believes that through intentional and authentic implementation and embodiment of critical praxis, healing is cultivated.
