Jerrell Jones is a librarian, digitization specialist, professional photographer, and fine art creator. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography and a Master of Science in Information Science from the University of North Texas. In addition to over 11 years of academic library service, he has contributed to roles in the oil and gas imaging sector and mental health rehabilitation field, focused on building sustainable partnerships across institutions, companies, and non-profit organizations. Jones is currently serving in the role of Digital Initiatives Coordinator at Rice University. He provides digital project facilitation and guidance on digital strategies and resources to faculty, staff, and students. Jerrell previously managed the digitization lab at the University of Houston Libraries. He is actively pursuing the advancement of equity, diversity, and inclusion in academic libraries through informed, intentional service to the profession. Jerrell seeks to make high-quality digitization and digital preservation practices more accessible to marginalized communities and inclusive by lowering barriers to access, providing education, and empowering communities to preserve what they value. His professional interests include digital preservation, digital community archiving, and international collaborative initiatives.
