Speaker Bio
Yali Feng is the Behavioral Sciences Research and Data Services Librarian in the Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She provides services for psychology and social work, delivering services such as research consultation, instruction, and collection development, and facilitating research data services and systematic reviews. She has explored broadly different research areas with a focus on understanding marginalized communities and building connections and strategies to facilitate their well-being. She emphasizes building true connections with the research participants, and on learning to use their language and ideas in their context to construct the research project and its objectives. She is sensitive to the often nuanced but great differences between the researcher and the participants on the same project, and this can be transcended by exploring how to meet each other, connect to each other, and create synergy with each other during the research process. It is important to find connection points to share during the process, so we can have true communication with authentic voice from which innovative approaches can emerge naturally. Her current research interests revolve around exploring how to foster patrons' growth through the teamship of human librarians and AI.
