Location: Toronto Metropolitan University 

Description: The Urban Farm operates two rooftop farms on campus to produce and distribute food, facilitate research and engage the community through ecological rooftop farming and food justice initiatives. The Urban Farm strives to support the health and well-being of the community and surrounding ecosystem by using practices that are ecologically, socially and financially just. This includes growing foods, medicines and plants that are culturally significant to many communities by applying diverse knowledges, foodways and growing techniques.

Date/Time: Wednesday, July 17; 2:00–3:30 p.m. 

  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour outside the main entrance of the George Vari Engineering building at 245 Church Street. This building is card access only and the rooftop is locked.
  • Please dress weather appropriate; wearing closed-toe shoes and sun protection.

Transportation: Toronto Metropolitan University is at the heart of Downtown Toronto. 

  • By Walking from the Sheraton Centre Hotel: It is an18 min. walk from the hotel to the starting point of the tour. The most direct route is to walk east along Queen St. to Church St. (one block east of Yonge St.), turn left and walk north to 245 Church St. which is just north of Dundas St. E.
  • By Transit: The closest subway station is Dundas Station which will take you through the Eaton's Centre, Yonge and Dundas Square, Atrium on Bay or the 10 Dundas Building. When you exit the subway station, travel north on Yonge Street to Gould Street. At Gould, travel east to Church St.
  • By Vehicle: Parking lots are located all around campus, with the closest being on Victoria Street just north of Dundas Street. The cost of parking is roughly $20 per day.
  • Urban Farm: Meet outside the main entrance doors of the Engineering building located at 245 Church Street (south-east corner of Church and Gould Streets). This building is card access only and the rooftop is locked so please meet at the building entrance. It is recommended that guests wear closed-toe shoes, bring sun protection and a reusable water bottle.

Accessibility: The tour is accessible for guests with mobility accommodations. We have a freight elevator that can go directly up to the rooftop.
