Libraries across Canada are working to align with UNDRIP, TRC Calls to Action, and other national and regional Indigenous-led principles. This work includes the need for action to embody respectful relationships in the context of collections. This session will advocate for the power of collaboration to make classification of Indigenous Law in academic libraries more accurate and respectful. It will start with a description of University A’s project to implement the Library of Congress KI Schedule (Law of Indigenous Peoples) in its Law Library by evaluating materials potentially related to Indigenous Law for reclassification. It will then describe how University B worked with University A to build on that work. Considerations, challenges, and limitations will be discussed. It will conclude with an invitation for other libraries to consider joining in this work and an open discussion of possible next steps. The session will include presenter discussion, visual examples of classification practices, and open discussion and questions from the audience.
