Name
A Framework for BIPOC Leadership Development in Academic Libraries
Description

The presentation is a culminating unveiling of a two-year Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)- funded project devoted to uncovering existing leadership opportunities for Black, Latinx, Asian, and Indigenous librarians. The project’s four phases began with a literature and white paper review of the complementary documentation and curricula of existing and sunsetted leadership programs specifically to build the library leadership pipeline to administration and within professional organizations. The second phase of the project included focus groups with alumni of the library leadership program for library professionals of color. The third phase of the project included 17 interviews with current Library deans & directors about their insights on leadership, leadership development, and leadership programs. The final stage convened representatives from the five leadership development programs being studied to receive feedback on the themes that emerged from the research and to explore the implications for the designs of extant and future efforts. This presentation will present the culminating findings and next steps for leadership programs for the BIPOC community and beyond.
