Melissa Smith, KPU Library
Carolyn Casenas, New Westminster Public library
Three librarians from different areas of academic librarianship share how cultivating an abundance mindset rather than a deficit/scarcity one has allowed them to rethink how they approach EDIA/J and their work. Through self-reflection and grounding in their identities, and a commitment “to bring their whole selves” to their roles, they share how an internal shift to an abundance mindset has enhanced their ability to meet their goals, influence others and cultivate change. They will discuss how to remain hopeful and work sustainably through willful optimism, fellowship, modelling and mentorship. Melissa Smith will delve into the abundance mindset and its influence on reshaping programming to engage first-year students, particularly in fostering stronger connections with international and first-generation students. Cleire Lauren will discuss how the critical librarianship approach allowed her team to support and further EDI initiatives in Technical Services. Carolyn Casenas will share how an abundance mindset helped redefine engagement and outreach, prioritizing connection and relationship building through goodwill, curiosity and humility.
