Name
“Let Us Help Advance the Field”: Shifting to a Culture of Neuroinclusion in Library Workplaces
Description

DEI is an essential ongoing conversation in libraries, and historically neurodiversity has been excluded from these conversations. Neurodivergent employees are already part of the profession, yet their talent is often overlooked. They have meaningful contributions to make to the advance the profession and to improve the many ways that libraries support their communities. Come learn how to develop neuroinclusive practices at your library to create a supportive environment for retaining and advancing neurodivergent library workers. Drawing on an IMLS-funded research project highlighting the experiences of neurodivergent librarians and supervisors, along with their neurotypical colleagues, this session will detail the workplace experiences of neurodivergent librarians and the barriers to and enablers of inclusion they encounter in libraries. Participants will learn about neuroinclusion in library workplaces and will have time during the workshop to share ideas with others and to identify and prioritize neuroinclusive practices they can enact at their own library.
